The reason why...
IS...
we had a calf!
Earlier this spring, when we knew we had to dry our cow off, we saved gallons and gallons of frozen cream and some of frozen milk. The cream we had to save so we could keep making homemade ice cream and the milk so that we wouldn't have to use that fake milk from the store. My brothers always told me that 2% milk meant it was 98% water and only 2% of real milk - and I believed them!
So, we were really excited when our cow gave birth to a little heifer early one morning.
It was so fun to watch the little one try to stand up after only a half an hour of being born.
The calf would go round and round her mama trying to find the milk. It was so funny to watch!
Mama, where is my milk?!
At last, she found it and was sucking happily away.
And now we are happily drinking good, refreshing real cows milk morning, noon, and night! Along with making homemade vanilla or mint ice cream, butter, and cheese!
We also have some new animals on our farm!
Let me introduce to you our two piggies...
and lambs!

Love the Jerseys! Congratulations on the heifer! Your cow looks so much like our Jersey cow- Debbie. My family can't stand a milk drought, though. That is why we have 4 Jersey milk cows. :)

Thanks, everyone. I think jersey calfs are the cutest.
We are so enjoying the real milk now. Last year was the first time in 15 years that we had a milk drought. We had a dairy before, but last year we quit the dairy and are now trying to get into beef.

Those are nice "piggies " and lambs.:) Glad they like their new home.:) I am also glad your drought has ended though it is too bad it is a cow and not goat! Just teasing!

Angela, our calf will be named Forty-five or Forty-six. Mike likes original names and names like these are easier to remember. =) We will keep the calf for awhile and possibly breed her. After that we might sell her as a springer or keep her.
Teresa, your pigs and lambs are doing very well, but miss you...maybe? BTW, many people in my family are extremely glad it is a cow and not a goat as you very well know! =)
