Camping!

Well, here I am again. Things have been busy here in the past month - getting gardens planted (650lbs of potatoes, and 2000+ strawberries, 60 some raspberries besides our regular garden), getting hay started amidst the rain lately, and many other things. One really fun thing that we did was go camping with our neighbors and friends up at Golden Hill.

On the campground there is a lighthouse that still works. They give tours where you can go up on the biggest railing at the top. It is 60 ft tall and when you get up there it can be much colder and windier than it is on the ground.

Golden Hill

This campground is not far from us on Lake Ontario. We have enjoyed going there for many years now and we have our favorite site which we were able to get this time. It is right on the water front with a little pathway down the bank to a little rocky "beach" that can fit... 4 canoes and a kayak. =)

Jonathan and Ben had their little army pup tents and I slept in my 6-man tent. The first night I had alot of room, but the rest of the nights we had 5 girls in there. =)

This is Dad and Mom's home-away-from-home. =) There is everything in there-cooler for food, a propane stove for Daddy's popcorn, a fan!, cd player... and much more. Now that's really roughing it easy!

The campground has many neat trails to walk on. In early morning walks you could scare a deer up.

Guess what we did the most?

...canoeing!!! It was so much fun. We spent hours on the water and by the end of the weekend most of us looked like ripe tomatoes. =) Friday night, when the Brocketts came the water was so smooth. Mr. and Mrs. Brockett came out with us kids and we had a water fight, oh, what fun!!

Saturday, Mr. Torrey came with Sarah and Paul. Peter and Amy came for the afternoon and after supper we had mountain pies or pie irons. Those are a special camping treat along with s'mores.

Courtney, Hillary's dog really enjoyed the lake and running after sticks we threw in the water. We would also throw and skip rocks and Courtney would get so mixed up, swimming to the place the rock splashed and paddle round and round wondering where in the water is the stick?!

Sunday, we had a huge breakfast with waffles, bagels, sausage, and bacon. It was so good! Afterwards we tried the puzzling task of packing all our things back together again. When we accomplished the wonder, us kids got the canoes out and paddled down to the marina where we were gathering together for church. After lunch we went back in the canoes for a last ride.

On the way home we had the Brockett's van pulling their pop-up camper with a canoe strapped down on each. Behind us were Mom and Dad with the little ranger packed full and two canoes and a kyak up on the rack pulling our pop-up camper. It was quite a train!

Ahhhh! I love camping and canoeing. We had a camp out, but we weren't able to go canoeing. Why don't you send some of that rain down here? We have three canoes, and we haven't ever had the chance to use two of them. ) : Oh, well. It'll rain some day.

Thanks Juli, it was LOTS of fun camping and doing it with the Brocketts.

Angela, you could bring your canoes up here and go canoeing with us!=) We have had a dry spring, but it has been raining alot this month and we actually have mushrooms growing in our lawn! I hope you get some!
