Making Apple Cider...

A couple Saturdays ago, we had an apple cider pressing day - with homemade donuts! =)
We had a couple families come and join us which made for a fun day!


In the morning, Jonathan and I washed the apples thoroughly which helps them taste better.

We have an old hand cider press that we use, but before that, we put the apples through a branch/leaf chipper which makes it into almost mush. That way, you can get more juice out of it.

Here the kids were helping Mike toss the apples in the chipper.


It was fascinating for them.

"This, goes....


...here!"


The boys had fun walking around and around screwing down the press and watching the juice come out.



Delicious!


When the press was getting too hard, the dads stepped in to give a hand.

Meanwhile, the girls were helping Becky inside to make donuts. They were having lots of fun smushing the dough, rolling it out, cutting it out, and taking turns.

Did you know you can get way more donuts out of the dough if you overlap them?




Joshua had to get in on it too!

He also really likes fresh cider!!

After making the donuts, Becky went to her next job,

Oh, and this is what donuts look like when Daddy forgets he put them in the oven! =)
